Gastro-Serve — Web App & Backend Development project by Launching Startup

Project Overview

The 30-second summary

Gastro-Serve needed an intuitive operations dashboard for independent restaurants along with a high-converting marketing site. After a previous freelance attempt stalled, they brought us in to design, develop, and launch both platforms concurrently within a strict 3-week window.

See our web app & backend development

A dual-deliverable timeline with zero room for feature bloat

The project required shipping two distinct systems simultaneously: a public Webflow marketing site to capture leads and a secure React dashboard for restaurant staff. The user experience had to be simple enough for busy kitchen managers to navigate instantly, while the engineering timeline had to absorb a previous contractor's six-month delay and deliver a functional build in days.

Parallel development pipelines with clear user hierarchies

We split the project into two distinct tracks during week two: one engineer focused on the Webflow marketing frontend, while another built the core React application with a Node.js and PostgreSQL backend. By stripping out complex multi-location logic for version 1 and prioritizing immediate utility like staff schedules and inventory alerts, we reached launch readiness on schedule.

How We Did It

A week-by-week breakdown

  1. 1

    Week 1

    Parallel UI & UX Design

Designed the Webflow marketing pages and the React application layouts side by side in Figma. Finalized the 5-screen dashboard framework—covering overview, inventory, staff, orders, and settings—with a clean information hierarchy by day six.

  2. 2

    Week 2

    Decoupled Development Tracks

Set up the Node.js API layer with Prisma ORM for clean database indexing. Implemented standard JWT authentication with role-based access control for owners and managers, while simultaneously staging the marketing site for content approval.

  3. 3

    Week 3

    Integration, QA & Infrastructure Handover

Connected marketing sign-up webhooks directly to the app onboarding flow. Conducted high-load database simulations and optimized performance, scoring a 97 on mobile Lighthouse checks before deploying the production build directly to the client's Vercel infrastructure.

FAQ

Common questions about this project

How long does it take to build a restaurant management SaaS?
We delivered Gastro-Serve's marketing site and React dashboard simultaneously in 21 days. A typical web app engagement runs 2–3 weeks depending on the number of user roles and third-party integrations.
Can you build both a marketing website and a web app at the same time?
Yes. Gastro-Serve is a live example of that. We run parallel design and development tracks — one team on the public-facing site, another on the application — so both ship within the same timeline and budget.
How much does a custom restaurant operations dashboard cost?
Our web app packages start at $2,500 on a fixed-price basis. Gastro-Serve received both a Webflow marketing site and a full React dashboard within a single engagement — no hourly billing, no surprise invoices.
